CAPTURE-XT explained

  • Uses dielectrophoresis ‘DEP’ to selectively capture and concentrate target particles (such as bacterial cells), based on the physical properties of the target, such as size and composition.
  • Can be applied to almost any target type, from macromolecules to circulating tumour cells, effectively removing contaminating cells, debris and inhibitors.
  • Preserves cell viability; cells can continue to metabolise and even undergo division while held in the capture fields.

Sample cleanup and pathogen concentration

CAPTURE-XT cleans up samples and concentrates target microorganisms for:

  • Visual inspection1.
  • Culture.
  • Molecular analysis2.

Applied to Mycobacterium tuberculosis from sputum samples, CAPTURE-XT can:

  • Capture tubercule bacilli for visual analysis as an alternative to sputum smear microscopy.
  • Provide a concentrated and purified sample for:
    • Molecular analysis.
    • Culture & drug susceptibility testing.

Future development

CAPTURE-XT is applicable to more than just TB. Dielectrophoretic technology can be applied to:

  • Other targets such as different microorganisms, viruses, human cells (including circulating tumour cells) or macromolecules.
  • Other sample types, including urine and blood.

QuantuMDx intends to develop the CAPTURE-XT platform to be compatible with a broad range of targets and sample matrices.
