In my role as Laboratory Operations Manager at QuantuMDx, I am responsible for managing our suite of laboratories and Health and Safety. The safety and wellbeing of our staff is a priority at QuantuMDx and I have a multi-disciplined team of Representatives of Employee Safety (RoES) who help to ensure our policies and procedures are implemented and followed. Our staff have multiple points of contact to raise any concerns or ideas and all staff are welcome at the monthly H&S meeting. I complete H&S inductions for all new starters, organise any necessary training and arrange maintenance, servicing and statutory inspections, where applicable, for equipment.
We comply with a wide variety of Legislation and Regulations including; The Health and Safety at Work Act 1974, The Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations 1999 and Control of Substances Hazardous to Health 2002. I also find the Approved Codes of Practice (ACOPs) and the Guidance invaluable to help in my role.
During the Covid pandemic, we were very proud to offer all staff voluntary, in-house PCR testing to ensure the safety of all in the office and provide reassurance when returning home to their families each evening. We also have our point of need test available on QPOC for any suspected cases covid cases on an ongoing basis.
We offer our employees a number of support platforms for them to support their physical health and mental health.
Compliance is maintained and monitored by delivering appropriate training and refresher training, involving experts and users in procedure writing, Senior Management involvement, analysing trends and efficient incident investigations. We make sure everyone knows the reasons behind our policies and procedures and what the benefits are to not only the individual but to all.
As a company that has many disciplines working together, it is imperative that everyone understands that everything we have in place is for a safe and healthy working environment.
