- Antimicrobial Resistance
Jonathan’s research and knowledge lies in genomics, tuberculosis and antimicrobial resistance.
Following studying for his PhD in genomics, he began his career working in pathology laboratories in the UK. He was consistently frustrated by the speed at which the laboratory was able to turn tests around. It was during his time in the pathology lab that he defined the specifications for a Point of Care molecular diagnostic and sequencer device.
After co-founding QuantuMDx in 2008 he set to build and alter the technologies to facilitate his dream in his garage at home. This early work was the foundation for which QuantuMDx’s technology is built upon.
Jonathan spent 2 years in Cape Town, working to develop QuantuMDx’s technology in the market that will benefit the most from it. The valuable experience and knowledge gathered through working with frontline healthcare workers has been channelled into QuantuMDx’s device, ensuring it meets real clinical need with ease of use.
Jonathan is a dedicated ambassador for tackling global issues such as antimicrobial resistance and the lack of healthcare infrastructure in developing nations. He has acted as a diagnostics advisor for the O’Neill Review for antimicrobial resistance, and is a key driver of QuantuMDx’s valuable partnerships with global NGOs the Foundation for Innovative New Diagnostics (FIND) and the Clinton Foundation’s Health Access Initiative (CHAI).
Jonathan was recognised for his achievements in 2015 when he was awarded European CTO of the Year.
