Heather Murton PhD

Head of Clinical Assay

Areas of Expertise
  • Novel Assay Development
  • Genetics
  • Tuberculosis
Heather is a biologist with experience in both an academic and commercial setting, leads the development of QuantuMDx’s Tuberculosis assay and proprietary sequencing technologies.

Following a degree in Genetics, Heather undertook a Master’s degree in Research alongside a PhD at the Institute for Cell and Molecular Biosciences at Newcastle University. During this time she focused on the regulation of DNA packing into chromatin and the implications of such mechanisms on transposable genetic elements. Using yeast as a model organism Heather used classical and modern molecular and genetic tools to understand the complex cellular mechanisms involved in cellular regulation.

Heather then transitioned into industry, where she combined her knowledge of molecular biology with her interest in medical advancement. She joined recently-established QuantuMDx in 2012 as a Research Scientist within the assay team. Since then, Heather has played a key role in facilitating the growth of the company from a tight-knit team with a big dream to a fast pace and dynamic company speeding towards commercialisation.

During her time at QuantuMDx Heather has been involved in multiple projects including assay and technology development and has led the development of the company’s DNA Sequencing technologies.  Heather currently leads the clinical assay team and is focused upon the development of rapid and affordable diagnostic for Tuberculosis.
